The City of Lights

We arrived in the beautiful city of Paris thursday morning, jet-lagged and all. After a taxi ride of looking out the window to nothing but incredible architecture, we were greeted at our place of stay by a woman named Veronique who not only was wearing intense blue eye liner, but she also did not speak a word of english. Good start. She also let us know, in french, that she was the grand-daughter of the dude who wrote phantom of the opera, fun fact. We communicated using hand signals and were left with the keys to the apartment that Picasso himself lived in during his prime of artistic life. Very dainty and cute little apartment with big french windows looking out onto the cobble-stone streets. I was quite surprised to find that all of Paris is indeed not filled with little men wearing kicky berets with curly mustaches playing the accordion, but it was remarkable nonetheless.
We then walked around our neighborhood known as Montmarte, where all of the famous artists did all their work and chit-chatted over crepes and cafe. It drizzled a little but everything was too pretty to care, we then went to the Sacre Coeur church which was filled with stained glass and large statues of religious saints. We climbed 300 steps to the very top of the church to see a beautiful panoramic view of all of Paris. We saw the Eiffel Tower from a far as well as many other Parisian monuments. This city is beautiful. Jet lag was starting to get the best of us so we headed to our apartment for a siesta that unintentionally lasted four hours, oops. When we woke up we went to this little fondue place that my mom and dad went to when they came to paris 26 years ago. The fondue place was popular and unique for the way they serve wine: in a baby bottle. We enjoyed cheese fondue and french bread and got toasted off of wine that we sucked out of a bottle made for infants. We wandered back to our apartment and settled in for the night, it's hard to believe I am in Paris.

P.S- I have no idea how to work this website really, which means I have no idea how to upload pictures to the blogs. I will eventually figure it out and just post a blog filled with pictures. Until then, use your imagination and try to hear the accordions.
